Melissani lake :
Boat-ride in the Cave of Melissani: The Cave of Melissani is located close to the town of Sami, about 20km from Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia. It is without a doupt one of the most significant places for tourist to visit in Kefalonia. Surprisingly there is a lake inside the cave that has trees and forests surrounding it. The sight is simply magical. The cave itself has the shape of a B with 2 chambers separated with an island in the middle. The roof of one of the chambers has caved in centuries ago letting now the sunlight shine into the lake and making it a breath-taking sight. When the sun is right above at noon, the sunlight hitting the turquoise-blue waters create a magical illusion and the whole cave of Melissani suddenly fills with blue light.
Drogarati cave:
Drogarati's Cave, which is close to Sami, was discovered 300 years ago, when a part of it was destroyed because of a strong earthquake, and so the entrance was created.
The cave's depth is 60m. from the ground level and it is open for the public since 1963.
Karavomilos:
Karavomilos is found just outside Sami in the direction of Agia Efimia. A small pretty fishing village with a long, narrow shingle beach and lovely views across to Ithaca. Karavomilos is named after the local water mill, where there is a small circular lake. Surrounded by lush vegetation the area attracts plenty of wild life including ducks, swans and herons. The lake is part of the phenomenon where fresh water flows underground from Katavothres in Argostoli, to the Melissani Lake, continuing on to Karavomilos. The village has a choice of tavernas, supermarkets and bakeries and from the water mill a lovely walk can be enjoyed along the beach into Sami itself.
Sami:
Sami is a pretty port village located on the east coast of Kefalonia, in a deep inlet facing the island of Ithaca. It is connected to the port of Patras by a daily ferry service and in summer the ferries of the major shipping companies from Italy and the rest of Greece dock there.
Antisamos Beach Photostop:
Surrounded by verdant hills, this beach is one of the most beautiful and popular beaches in Antisamos—loved for its shiny white pebbles and clear waters full of marine life. Here, snorkel amongst fish, go kayaking, take a lesson at the water sports school, and lounge on a sunbed while admiring views of Ithaki Island in the distance. The beach gets quite crowded in summer, partly because it was featured in the Hollywood movie 'Captain Corelli’s Mandolin'; go past the beach bars to find a quieter spot to lay your beach towel. Visit the beach along with Melissani Cave (also known as Melissani Lake), both common stops on a tour of Kefalonia.
Agia Effimia:
Agia Effimia is a village on the east coast of the island of Kefalonia in Greece. It was the seat of the former Pylaros municipality. It is a traditional fishing village centred on a small harbour.
